| There are well-concealed concrete hangars on Kadena Air BaseThe plaque reads, (Upper portion in English and the lower plate in Nihongo):"This structure is one of approximately 30 concrete shelters built for the Japanese at Kadena, Yontan (now called Yomitan - parenthetical comment added by me) and Naha Air Base between June 1944 and March, 1945. The more impressive structure at Yontan and Naha were intended to protect operational aircraft from bombing attack. These were intended primarily as storage facilities and dismantled aircraft |
