Shuri-jo in 2014-15

Shikinaen was constructed in 1799 as the second residence for the Ryukyu royal families. It was used to entertain royal family members and foreign guests including a Chinese delegate (Sapposhi) and played an important role in the kingdom's diplomatic intercourse. Shikinaen garden has a pond located in its center in the shape of the Chinese character for "heart," and the pond is surrounded by Udun, Tsukiyama, Hanazono, a fruit garden, trees, and an archery drill hall. They are connected by a pathway.
