| In the years after 1952 the economy of Okinawa had expanded to include such things as the service industry, banking, insurance, real estate and government employment by both the GOJ and the US. The entertainment industry flourished as demand was great from U.S. servicemen and by Japanese military personnel. Springing up around the major military facilities were places such as pawn shops, bars, clubs and hotels. Awase became quite infamous for its by the hour hotels. |
