Many people brought their wares into town to be traded. "The boooming economy of the Ryukyu Islands as it developed after 1952 became increasingly dependent upon the import of consumer goods from Japan. Automobiles, elctric rice cookers, fans and washing machines, radios and TVs and innumerable other items now seemed necessities to the more affluent population.
