The Gajumaru is a tree that "walks" wherein lives a spirit, kijimuna. It is also known by the name "Chinese Banyan" or, simply, "Banyan" tree. Its above-ground root system provides strength and stability against strong typhoon winds and so it is often planted as a shelter belt around homes.
The Gajumaru Restaurant was demolished in 2015.
