A
The Kugani udun is a two-story area behind the Nanden containing living rooms and bedrooms for the king, queen, and queen mother. Behind the Kugani udun (to the east) was a long narrow area known as the Yuinchi, which contained kitchens where chefs and female servants prepared food for the court.

The two-story Nanden, or "South Hall," is known as the Hae-no-udun in Uchinaguchi. It and the one-story Bandokoro attached to it are Japanese-style structures which housed Satsuma officials and Japanese-style ceremonies. Records indicate it was first built in the 1620s, though archaeological excavations have discovered earlier foundations. There do not appear to be any records of it ever having been painted and so, in accordance with one school of Japanese traditional architectural customs, it remains composed primarily of bare wood. The two buildings today include exhibition spaces, where artifacts related to the castle and the royal family are put on display.

C
The Una is the great courtyard where many ceremonies took place. A diorama in the reception hall (when you come up from the underground parking) depicts some of those ceremonies such as the Investiture of a new King.
