Eugene R. Wing
Today, July 10, 2010, I received the following brief message from Michael Wing:
"Mick,
Thought you might be interested. My dad was so happy to share his photo's with you.
He died unexpectedly of a heart attack @ 73. He was the strongest man I know and I attribute this to the Marines. He made me proud."

Gene Wing

Not so long ago I received a very pleasant message from Gene Wing and we quickly became acquainted via the Internet regarding his time on Okinawa.

Through photos and commentary emerged the story of a man who was quite proud of his achievements on the island. Much of the relative ease of transportation throughout the northern part of the main island of Okinawa can be attributed to Gene and his colleagues who carved out and literally paved the way for motorists of military and civilian persuasion.

I am truely going to miss corresponding with Gene and hope that his family is able to find peace and solace in knowing that their loved one has made tremendous contributions and has left the world a better place for having been here. I pray for Gene to enjoy well-deserved and everlasting R&R.

Please visit the Gene Wing Gallery to read his account and see the photos from his days on Okinawa.
