The gate was also called Kagoise-ujo, or palanquin boarding gate, because senior court officials arriving at Shuri-jo would alight from their palanquin here out of respect for the king.
Roukokumon was built some time in the 15th Century, then removed in the early Showa period when it became too old for use. It was restored in 1992.
