2025 was destined to be an exceptional springtime return trip to Okinawa. Planning had included securing airfare for four, a couple of car
rentals and two house rentals. My son, Zac had accompanied me in 2015 and DyLon came along in 2017. Neither had been back by 2025.
My daughter, Brittney had not been on Okinawa since the day she left in 1990 when we returned from my second active duty assignment
at Kadena Air Base. Brittney was quite young in 1990 but she did have some vivid memories of places we had lived and friends that
she had made. So then, she would accompany me in 2025.
It was a very exciting prospect to have four of us at the same time. Our plan however created a couple of considerations that had never arisen regarding previous trips. My "kids" would not be staying on island for as long as I, so I had to arrange 10 days lodging for four. I managed to rent a nice place out in Maeda, a west coastal village on the East China Sea side of the main island of Okinawa that fit our requirements perfectly. |

Then I had to find another place, not so large, for me to live after the others left to go back
to their respective homes. In 2023, I had stayed out in Yonashirohenza Town on Henza Island. It was just simple perfection and I was hoping to rent it again for 2025. Alas, the property was no longer listed on Airbnb. Drat!
I made some contacts with folks I had met on Henza and learned that the property owner had died and ownership of Renga House went to a man who lives in Hokkaido. After some discussions - mostly messages and email - the house became available on GoStay. Yay! Likewise, a small rental car wouldn't work for four of us plus our baggage, so I rented a big Mitsubishi Delica van for the first phase, then a kei car for myself after the kids departed. As it turned out, the kei car that I had reserved was a larger Toyota Roomy mini van. Okay, let's get on with our 2025 adventure! |
